We are happy to present X-Day : Japan, which includes Walter F. Tuttle’s Kyushu Diary and a number of exciting extras. In addition to a detailed personal account of the invasion, the original text provides an excellent overview of the wartime world on the Pacific, being meant for people who had heard mostly about action in Europe during World War II. This new book brings the story to a new generation, with extra background, maps, and informational features.
Kyushu Diary was a collection of reports from veteran war correspondent Tuttle, who traveled with Allied units during the invasion of the Japanese Home Islands, which started on the southern island of Kyushu in November of 1945. The book was initially published in 1946, as quickly as it could be put to print after the events it describes. At that time the massive allied forces were still engaged in fierce combat in and around Japan In 1952 the 2nd edition was published, with some censored sections restored, new annotations, and a post script from the author.
